My Top 70 Candid Wedding Photos
In the olden days, a wedding photographer would arrive at your Church ten minutes before your ceremony began, line you and your bridesmaids up in front of the doors and carefully stretch out a few rolls of film until the end of the service. They’d say things like, “a nice big smile if ya wouldn’t mind” and “everyone look this way please”. Once your wedding was over, they’d collapse their stepladder and fold it into their Mini, say “you look lovely”… and bugger off home.An auntie & uncle of mine don’t actually have any photos from their wedding, as their photographer simply forgot to load his camera with film and shot their entire day blank. They had to reconstruct the entire wedding a few weeks later, even getting their friends and family back!
Your big day is going to be an absolute goldmine of moments that will never happen again, and there are even moments in between those moments that are capable of striking a seriously emotional chord. In my opinion, good wedding photography is no longer about taking charge of the day and bossing people about. It’s all about stepping back from control and simply catching moments that connect with the couple in a personal way. There are of course times when your photographer will need to step in with some guidance, but honestly… candid is what you want. Here’s 70 of my favourite “fly on the wall” photos, all taken during weddings. It just goes to show how cools photos can be when people don’t really know you’re taking them.
